The Ultimate Move-Out Cleaning Checklist for Tenants
A practical move-out cleaning checklist for tenants preparing for apartment handover in Switzerland.

Why move-out cleaning needs a checklist
Move-out cleaning is different from normal household cleaning. During a handover, landlords and agencies inspect details that may not matter in everyday life: limescale, oven residue, cupboards, window frames, skirting boards and hidden dust.
A checklist helps tenants stay organised and reduces the risk of missing small but important areas. It also makes it easier to decide whether to clean yourself or book professional move-out cleaning before inspection.
The best time to clean is after furniture and boxes have been removed. Empty rooms make it possible to reach corners, floors and fixtures properly.
Kitchen and bathroom checklist
The kitchen usually takes the most time. Clean the oven, hob, extractor hood, fridge, cupboards, drawers, sink, taps, backsplash and floor. Grease and limescale need special attention because they are easy to notice during handover.
Bathrooms should be cleaned from top to bottom. Focus on tiles, grout, shower glass, taps, drains, mirrors, toilet, washbasin and cabinets. Limescale is one of the most common reasons for complaints, so do not leave it until the last hour.
If the apartment has not been detailed recently, consider a deep cleaning style approach before the final inspection.
Living areas, bedrooms and final details
Vacuum and mop floors, clean skirting boards, wipe window sills, remove dust from radiators and check built-in storage. Empty cupboards should be wiped inside and outside.
Windows, frames and handles are often inspected closely. If curtains, blinds or balcony areas are part of the handover, include them in the plan. Take photos after cleaning so you have a record of the condition.
Combine cleaning with your moving services timeline. A clean handover works best when moving, disposal and cleaning are planned as separate steps rather than one rushed day.
